Coaches Networking
PBIS Coaches Networking provides professional development to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) External and Internal Coaches. Coaches are given the opportunity to maintain and update their skills; network; and discuss issues, questions, and concerns regarding PBIS implementation. The sessions will be held throughout the school year for schools implementing Tier 1 and Tier 2.
PBIS and RtI Roundtable Networking (Behavior and Academics)
Developing an enduring and integrated system of supports requires planning with a framework in mind. The Wisconsin RtI Center and Wisconsin PBIS Network Technical Assistance Coordinators will facilitate a series of interactive half-day sessions that support implementation of an integrated Equitable Multi-Level System of Support (E-MLSS). School and district leaders will receive technical assistance and opportunities to network with peers while planning for fidelity and sustainability.
External Coaching
CESA #1 will provide a highly skilled school professional trained in PBIS systems and practices to deliver technical assistance and support to leadership teams, both at the district and participating school levels, who are implementing or expanding their PBIS practice. The primary role of a PBIS External Coach is to provide district and participating schools with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure accurate, continuous, and effective implementation. Coaches also support the sustainability and expansion of current PBIS practice.
Trainer
CESA #1 will provide a Wisconsin PBIS Network approved trainer in Universal/Tier 1 PBIS systems and practices to assist with school and district readiness for implementation. The trainer is available to provide Universal/Tier 1 PBIS training within schools, districts, or a consortium of districts on a per diem basis. Schools/districts must work with their PBIS Technical Assistance Coordinator (TAC) to access training/trainer.
Training
PBIS is a proactive and preventive multi-tiered system of support for behavior content. Through the development and implementation of a PBIS framework, schools are able to create and maintain safe and effective learning environments and ensure that all students have the social/emotional/behavioral skills needed to succeed in school and beyond. CESA #1 provides training in PBIS systems and practices to assist with school and district readiness in order to implement or expand PBIS.
Universal/Tier 1 - C100, U100, U200, U300—Four Full Days
The Tier I training consists of activity-based preparation for implementation of school-wide PBIS at the universal/Tier 1 level. These work days focus on the technical changes required to put a PBIS system in place and the belief systems and mindsets needed to create a positive school culture. Teams will leave the training with an understanding of a multilevel system of support that provides behavioral supports to all students. After training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the basic RtI principles as they apply to behavior (PBIS)
- Articulate and determine the roles and responsibilities of all universal team members
- Understand the foundational principles of a universal/Tier 1 behavioral system and learn strategies to create one in their school
- Understand the importance of creating data systems, including tracking and analysis
- Use self-assessment tools to guide implementation, including the creation of action plans
In addition to the four training dates, six hours of external coaching are included.
Secondary/Tier 2 - S100, S200, S300, S400—Four Full Days
School PBIS teams participate in these four training days that consist of intense, activity-based preparation for implementation of selected/Tier 2 PBIS. These guided workdays enable teams to begin developing and refining the systems, data, and practices necessary for sustainable implementation. School teams will learn why and how to establish their selected/Tier 2 level of support including:
- Understanding the intent and purpose of the essential components of positive support systems that provide behavioral supports to targeted groups of students
- Realigning student support systems including an examination of student service roles and the roles of families in the development and delivery of interventions
- Developing data rules for accessing, progress monitoring, and determining the fidelity of interventions
- Understanding the intent and guiding principles of the generic interventions and how they are layered on the universal/Tier 1 framework
- Creating a continuum of intervention support from generic group-based interventions to high-intensity intervention
- Understanding early use of brief functional behavioral assessment and the development and use of intervention plans created, implemented, and monitored by support teams
In addition to the four training dates, six hours of external coaching are included.
Tier 1 and Tier 2 Team Member “Booster” Trainings
The PBIS “Booster” trainings are designed for school groups of two or more people including coaches, new or current team members, and/or administrators who are looking to re-establish or strengthen their current system. The Tier 1 Booster Training will review systems development and critical components of Tier 1 practice. The Tier 2 Booster Training spans two days; the first day will address Tier 2 intervention features and application to primary Tier 2 interventions. Day two will address mentoring and the brief functional assessment/functional behavior plan (FBA/BIP) process. Both ‘booster’ trainings will discuss common challenges with implementation, and time will be given to revise current practice.
Establishing a Solid Classroom Management System
Implementing a solid classroom management system is key to building a multi-level system of support for all learners. Also, as schools continue with their Educator Effectiveness efforts, it is important to make connections between PBIS Classroom Management and the Danielson and Strong frameworks. This workshop will explore the Classroom Management for Academic Achievement online resource and its impact of improved classroom management skills. It will also provide time for school and district teams to make connections between implementing PBIS at the classroom level and their Effective Educator efforts. Follow up coaching and consultation are available for those interested. The three days of Classroom Management training may be offered as a package or individually at CESA #1 or on-site in district.
School-Wide Information System (SWIS) Facilitation
The School-Wide Information System (SWIS) is a web-based information system designed to help school personnel use office referral data. The data is used to create school-wide and individual student interventions and to generate reports. SWIS reports play a critical role in decision making. Check in/Checkout is the SWIS data tool to track interventions at Tier 2. Schools interested in SWIS will be provided with readiness activities, training, and facilitation.
For schools/districts seeking SWIS support, CESA #1 can provide a SWIS Trainer and Facilitator. This individual can conduct SWIS Tier 1 training and support, Tier 2 training and support, as well as provide technical assistance to established teams. (Indicators 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6)
