The parents of a child with a disability are entitled to an independent educational evaluation (IEE) at no cost to them when they disagree with the LEA’s evaluation of their child. An IEE is an evaluation conducted by a qualified examiner who is not an employee of the child’s local educational agency. CESA #1 has a list of qualified individuals who can conduct independent educational evaluations. The evaluation will be conducted in a timely manner so an undue delay in the process does not occur. Independent Educational Evaluators are available in the areas of school psychology, speech/language, behavior, occupational and physical therapy, autism, assistive technology, deaf and hard of hearing, visual impairments, and other areas of disability.
