CESA #1 provides a highly qualified Behavioral Interventionist to conduct assessments and to make recommendations, along with direct services, related to student behavior. Assessments may include, but are not limited to, a review of all documents and data; observation of the environment; observation of the student within multiple environments throughout the school day; and interviews with staff, family, and any community-based service providers. This service is available for students ages 3—21 and will address student behavior and staff responses in regular education and special education settings. Upon completion of the assessment, the behavioral interventionist will meet with the school, parents, and others to share data and offer suggestions, including changes related to the student. Recommendations may also be provided to school-based staff relative to professional development and training to enhance the school environment for success with all students.
Direct services may include, but are not limited to, providing information and support for the implementation of interventions related to learning readiness, communication, cognitive skills, play skills, social and emotional skills, behavior management, and daily living skills. The goal of this work is to reduce maladaptive behaviors by selecting and practicing behaviors that will allow the student to be successful during the school day. These skills will be designed in such a way that they can be integrated into meaningful interactions in the home, community, and with others to facilitate healthy relationships. (Indicators 4, 5 & 6)
